The Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) have issued an indicative notice for CEN No. 08/2026 — Recruitment for the post of Station Master, with about 1,250 vacancies across all RRBs. The post is in Pay Level 6 (starting basic pay ₹35,400). Online applications are expected from 27 October to 25 November 2026 (tentative) on rrbapply.gov.in.

This is a big change: from 2026, Station Master is no longer part of RRB NTPC. It has its own CEN, its own exam and a new syllabus. A Railway Board letter dated 7 October 2026 sets out the selection method — a single-stage CBT, then a Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT), document verification and medical. All details below are from that letter and the CEN 08/2026 indicative notice. We will update this page when the detailed CEN is published.

What Is New: Station Master Separate from NTPC

  • Until now, Station Master was filled through the RRB NTPC (Graduate) exam. From 2026 it has a separate CEN and exam.
  • The exam has no General Awareness section. It focuses on maths, science basics, data interpretation, reasoning and English reading comprehension.
  • A CBAT (aptitude test) is compulsory for Station Master, and it now counts for 30% of the final merit.
  • The minimum age is 20 years.

Selection Process

  1. Single-stage CBT — 100 marks, 120 minutes.
  2. CBAT — candidates up to 8 times the vacancies (RRB-wise) are shortlisted on CBT merit. You must pass the CBAT.
  3. Document verification and medical — shortlisted RRB-wise at 1:1 to vacancies, on combined merit: 70% CBT + 30% CBAT.
