Frequently asked questions
How is the salary of a central government employee calculated?
Gross salary = basic pay + Dearness Allowance (a % of basic) + House Rent Allowance (a % of basic, by city class) + Transport Allowance (plus DA on it). Under NPS, 10% of basic + DA is deducted. The calculator does this for every level of the 7th CPC pay matrix.
What is the starting salary at Level 6?
Level 6 starts at a basic pay of ₹35,400. Posts such as RRB JE and Supreme Court Junior Court Assistant are at Level 6. Add DA, HRA and transport allowance to get the gross salary.
Which DA rate does the calculator use?
It starts with the current central government DA rate, which we update when a new rate is announced (DA is revised twice a year). You can also type any DA % to see its effect.
Which city class applies to Dehradun?
For central government HRA, Dehradun is a Y-class city. Most other towns in Uttarakhand are Z class. Big metros such as Delhi and Mumbai are X class.
Does this work for state government or bank jobs?
Use it as a guide only. State governments, PSUs and banks have their own pay scales, DA and HRA rules, so their salaries can differ.
