The Uttarakhand Subordinate Service Selection Commission (UKSSSC) is recruiting for 398 Group 'C' posts in the subordinate courts under the High Court of Uttarakhand, Nainital: 259 Junior Assistant and 139 Stenographer Grade-I / Personal Assistant posts in the civil courts and family courts (Advertisement No. 78/UKSSSC/2026, dated 15 June 2026). Online applications ran from 22 June to 6 July 2026.
Latest update (18 October 2026): exam postponed. By notice no. 255 dated 18 October 2026, UKSSSC has postponed the written exam that was set for 25 October 2026 "for unavoidable reasons". The new date will be published separately on sssc.uk.gov.in. The Assistant Accountant exam (Advt 79) of 1 November has also been postponed. Earlier, notice no. 1652 (25 August 2026) had fixed the exam for 25 October.

Vacancies are given district by district in the advertisement. While applying, candidates chose the districts (janpad) they want; after selection, posting is given by merit and the district preference. UKSSSC says this choice cannot be changed later. All posts are non-gazetted, permanent and pensionable (contributory pension).
Reservation for Uttarakhand Women and Other Groups
Horizontal reservation applies within each category for Uttarakhand women, dependants of freedom fighters, ex-servicemen, orphans, skilled sportspersons, identified state agitators and persons with disabilities. For example, of the 230 Junior Assistant posts in the civil courts, 58 are for women of Uttarakhand; of the 128 Stenographer posts in the civil courts, 29 are for women of Uttarakhand. Candidates from other states apply in the unreserved category and do not get these benefits.
Eligibility
Junior Assistant
- A bachelor's degree from a university established by law in India, or an equivalent qualification recognised by the government.
- Good knowledge of Hindi and English.
- Hindi typing on a computer at a minimum of 25 words per minute. Candidates who can also type English on a computer at 30 wpm get preference.
- Adequate knowledge of computer operation.
Stenographer Grade-I / Personal Assistant
- A bachelor's degree from a recognised university, or an equivalent qualification.
- Good knowledge of Hindi and English.
- Hindi shorthand at a minimum of 80 words per minute and Hindi typing on a computer at 25 wpm. English shorthand at 80 wpm and English typing at 35 wpm gives preference.
- Good knowledge of computer operation.
Age Limit
The age is counted on 1 January 2026. Candidates must be at least 21 and not more than 35 years old, which means born on or after 2 January 1991 and on or before 1 January 2005.

Exam Pattern and Selection Process
- Written exam (new date awaited): one objective (multiple-choice) paper of 140 marks lasting 2 hours 30 minutes, on general knowledge and general studies. It may be held offline (OMR) or online.
- Typing / shorthand test: 60 marks. Shortlisted candidates take a Hindi typing test (Junior Assistant) or a Hindi shorthand and typing test (Steno). This test is qualifying.
- Document verification of candidates in the merit list, followed by the final selection list.

How to Prepare in the Last Two Weeks
- Practise UKSSSC's old question papers (available under "Old Question Papers" on sssc.uk.gov.in) in 2 hours 30 minutes to build speed.
- Avoid blind guessing: every wrong answer costs a quarter mark.
- Keep typing practice going every day — the Hindi typing (25 wpm) or shorthand (80 wpm) test follows soon after the result.
- Watch the website and your registered mobile and email for the admit card notice.
How to Download the Admit Card
- Visit sssc.uk.gov.in and open the notice for the Junior Assistant / Stenographer Grade-I (civil / family court) admit card when it is released.
- Click the admit card link and log in with the registration details you used while applying.
- Download the admit card, check your name, photo, exam centre and timing, and take a printout.
- Carry the admit card and an original photo ID to the exam centre.
