What to Take to the Exam Centre
- The printed admit card. No one can sit the test without it, and the photo on it will be matched with the child.
- The child's Aadhaar card, or the parent's residence certificate that was uploaded in the application.
- Blue or black ballpoint pens — pencils are not allowed on the OMR sheet.
- Reach early: the child must be seated by 11:00 AM. Late comers are not allowed, and no one can leave before the test ends.
- The exam centre is fixed on the admit card; requests to change it are not accepted.
JNVST 2027 Exam Pattern
The test is two hours long and has three sections, all in one test booklet. Each correct answer gets 1.25 marks, and there is no negative marking. Divyang candidates get 40 minutes extra.
| Section | Questions | Marks | Time |
| Mental Ability Test (MAT) + Environmental Studies (EVS) | 20 + 20 | 25 + 25 | 60 minutes |
| Arithmetic Test | 20 | 25 | 30 minutes |
| Language Test | 20 | 25 | 30 minutes |
| Total | 80 | 100 | 2 hours |
Minimum qualifying marks: 14 marks in Mental Ability + EVS, 7 marks in Arithmetic and 7 marks in Language. The child must clear every section. A bell rings every 30 minutes to help with timing.
Medium of the test in Uttarakhand: Hindi, English or Urdu. The booklet comes in the language chosen in the application form, and it cannot be changed now.
OMR sheet rules
- Darken only one circle for each question. A darkened answer cannot be changed.
- Striking out, whitener and erasing are not allowed — such answers are not evaluated.
- The OMR sheet and the question booklet must carry the same number. Tell the invigilator at once if they do not match.
- Marks are calculated by machine, and there is no re-evaluation or re-totalling.
Navodaya Vidyalayas in Uttarakhand
There are 13 functional JNVs in Uttarakhand (665 across the country). Admission is district-specific: a child can get a seat only in the JNV of the district where they live and studied Class 5 in 2026-27. Selected children cannot be shifted to another JNV later.
Seat Reservation
- At least 75% of the seats in a district go to children who studied Classes 3, 4 and 5 in rural-area schools. The rest are open seats for rural and urban children on merit.
- At least one-third of the seats are filled by girls.
- SC and ST seats are in proportion to their population in the district (not less than 15% and 7.5%, and not more than 50% together).
- 27% OBC reservation, only with a valid Central-list OBC certificate issued before registration or the exam.
- Seats are also reserved for Divyang children as per Government of India norms.
After the Exam — Result and Admission
The JNVST 2027 result is expected by the end of March 2027. It will be on the admission portal and navodaya.gov.in, and also displayed at the JNV, the District Education Officer's office and the District Magistrate's office. Selected candidates are also informed by speed post.
NVS does not publish a waiting list. If a selected child does not take admission, the next candidate is picked automatically through the portal. The full admission process closes by 31 August 2027. In a tie, the child with more marks in Mental Ability + EVS ranks higher, then Arithmetic.
Documents needed at admission
