The Nanda Gaura Yojana (नंदा गौरा योजना) is the Uttarakhand Government's flagship scheme for girls, run by the Women Empowerment and Child Development Department. Under the current Government Order dated 7 August 2023, the state pays ₹11,000 on the birth of a girl and ₹51,000 when she passes Class 12 and joins graduation or a diploma while unmarried. The money goes straight to the bank account by DBT. Applications are online only at nandagaurauk.in.
For 2026, the official portal says applications for Inter (Class 12) pass girls opened on 22 August 2026. The yearly last date for this stage is 30 November. Who Is Eligible
Common conditions
- The girl's parents must be permanent residents of Uttarakhand. The scheme is only for original or permanent girls of the state.
- Family income must be ₹6,000 a month or less (₹72,000 a year), shown by an income certificate issued by the Tehsildar (valid for one year), or the family must be in the BPL category (BPL certificate).
- A parent or guardian must give an affidavit about whether other girls of the family have already received the benefit.
- Only two living girls of a family can get the benefit. Each girl can apply only once for each stage.
Stage 1 — On the birth of a girl (₹11,000)
- Apply within 6 months of the birth. Later applications are not accepted.
- The birth should take place in a government or private hospital or an ANM centre, or with a trained health worker in rural areas without a hospital. Hospitals in other states are also accepted. For births at home, a birth certificate from the urban local body or VPDO/ADO (Panchayat) is accepted.
- The mother should have been registered at the Anganwadi centre during pregnancy, which is certified by the Anganwadi worker.
- The money goes to the joint account of the girl and her mother, or the mother's account. If the mother is not alive, it goes to the father's account, or to the guardian's if both parents are not alive.
Stage 2 — After passing Class 12 (₹51,000)
- She must pass Class 12 from the Uttarakhand Board, another state board, CBSE, ICSE or NIOS. Government, central and RTE-registered private schools all count.
- She must have taken admission in graduation, or in a diploma course of at least one year, at a government-recognised institution.
- She must be unmarried, and her name must be on the family ration card.
- Apply in the same year she passes Class 12. Applications are invited from July to November of the year of passing, and an application made in a later year is not valid. A girl who passed Class 12 in 2026 must apply by 30 November 2026.
- The money goes to the girl's own bank account, which must be linked to Aadhaar.
- Girls living in a Balika Niketan, Nari Niketan, orphanage or state-aided home in Uttarakhand can also apply after Class 12. For them, the two-girls-per-family limit does not apply, and they do not need a birth certificate, domicile certificate, income certificate or parents' names.

Bank Account Rules
- The account must be linked to Aadhaar and must be active.
- The portal says the account should not be a Jan-Dhan account.
- Birth stage: a joint account of the girl and her mother, or the mother's account. Class 12 stage: the girl's own account.
- Enter the account details carefully. A wrong or inactive account delays the payment.
How to Apply Online
- Go to nandagaurauk.in and click New applicant: register now. Aadhaar and a mobile number are mandatory for registration. The portal has a login and registration tutorial (PDF).
- Sign in with your registered mobile number and password.
- Choose the right stage (birth of a girl, or Class 12 pass) and fill in the form completely and correctly. Incomplete or wrong details lead to rejection.
- Upload every required document, each under 200 KB and clearly readable.
- Check everything and submit. Keep the application details safe.
The scheme is fully online, and offline applications are not accepted. Applying more than once for the same girl and stage gets the application rejected.

- Verification The Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) of your block checks the application
- Selection committee A district committee chaired by the Chief Development Officer approves eligible applications
- Directorate The approved list is sent to the Women Empowerment and Child Development Directorate

Benefits are given on a first come, first served basis, subject to the budget. If the budget runs out in a year, approved beneficiaries are paid on priority the next year. Apply early rather than waiting for 30 November.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Missing the 6-month window after birth. This cannot be relaxed.
- Using an income certificate not issued by the Tehsildar, or one older than a year.
- A Class 12 girl whose name is not on the ration card, or who has not yet taken admission in graduation or a diploma.
- A bank account that is not linked to Aadhaar, is inactive, or is a Jan-Dhan account.
- Large or blurred scans. Keep each file under 200 KB and readable.
