How the Main Exam Was Structured
The Main exam had an objective test of 200 marks (3 hours) followed immediately by a descriptive test of 30 marks (30 minutes), both online.

- Negative marking: one-fourth of a question's marks was deducted for each wrong answer in the objective tests.
- Sectional cut-off: candidates must clear a minimum score in every test, including the descriptive paper. SBI fixes these cut-offs based on vacancies.
- Shortlisting for Phase-III: about 3 times the category-wise vacancies are called, from the top of the merit list of Main exam aggregate marks.
Phase-III: Psychometric Test, Group Exercise and Interview
- Psychometric test: a personality-profiling test, held online under proctoring or at test centres. All questions are compulsory. Its findings are given to the interview panel; it carries no separate marks.
- Group exercise: 20 marks.
- Personal interview: 30 marks. The minimum qualifying marks for the group exercise and interview are decided by SBI.
How the Final Merit List Is Made
Candidates must qualify in the Main exam and in Phase-III separately. Prelims marks are not counted in the final merit. The Main exam (230 marks) and Phase-III (50 marks) are converted to a total of 100:

Documents to Keep Ready for Phase-III
- Graduation certificate and mark sheets — graduation must have been passed on or before 30 September 2026.
- Photo ID, and the call letters for the earlier exams.
- OBC (non-creamy layer) certificate issued between 1 April 2026 and the interview date, in the central government format.
- EWS 'Income & Asset Certificate' based on income for financial year 2025-26.
- SC/ST, PwBD or ex-servicemen certificates, as applicable.
- Clear credit history: candidates with defaulted loans or credit card dues must clear them (or get the CIBIL record updated) before joining.
