The Uttar Pradesh Subordinate Services Selection Commission (UPSSSC) has published Advertisement No. 24-Exam/2026 for the Combined Junior Engineer (Mechanical) Main Exam (PET-2025)/24. It has 1,156 posts for diploma holders in mechanical and automobile engineering. Of these, 722 are Junior Engineer (Mechanical) posts in the Irrigation and PWD departments. The rest are Mechanic and Assistant Storekeeper posts in UPSRTC, Assistant District Panchayat Raj Officer (Technical), Technical Assistant and Instructor Machine. Online applications run from 3 November to 25 November 2026 on upsssc.gov.in.
Only candidates who took PET-2025 and got a score card can apply. Candidates are shortlisted on their PET-2025 normalised score for a 100-mark written Main Exam, and selection is on the written exam alone.

Level 6 is ₹35,400–₹1,12,400 (PWD shows the old band ₹9,300–34,800 with Grade Pay ₹4,200). The UPSRTC posts show the ₹5,200–20,200 band. UPSSSC notes that the number of posts may still go up or down.

For most posts, candidates with two years in the Territorial Army or an NCC "B" certificate get preference when other things are equal. You must hold the qualification by 25 November 2026.
Age Limit (as on 1 July 2026)
- 18 to 40 years: JE (Mechanical) in Irrigation and PWD, Mechanic and Assistant Storekeeper in UPSRTC, Instructor Machine.
- 21 to 40 years: Technical Assistant (Ground Water) and Assistant District Panchayat Raj Officer (Technical).
- SC, ST, OBC and other notified categories of UP get the relaxation fixed by the government.
- Employees already working in UPSRTC get 5 more years for the Mechanic and Assistant Storekeeper posts.
- EWS candidates need a certificate issued between 1 April 2026 and 25 November 2026, based on 2025-26 income.

- One objective paper of 100 questions, 1 mark each, in 2 hours.
- Negative marking: ¼ mark is deducted for each wrong answer.
- Part 1 is 65 marks, so mechanical engineering decides most of your score. Machines and design, mechanics, strength of materials and fluid mechanics alone carry 45 marks.
- The exam scheme was approved by the UP government on 30 June 2026. The exam date will be announced later.
Shortlisting From PET-2025
- Only candidates who appeared in PET-2025 and received a score card can apply.
- Candidates are shortlisted for the Main Exam category-wise on their PET-2025 normalised score.
- Anyone with a zero or negative actual or normalised PET-2025 score will not be shortlisted.
- Candidates marked "Under Investigation" or "Provisional" in the PET-2025 result can apply provisionally, subject to the commission's final decision.

Women, ex-servicemen, PwD, dependants of freedom fighters and sportspersons pay the fee of their original category. A separate Main Exam fee is paid only by shortlisted candidates, before the admit card is downloaded.
How to Apply Online
- Open upsssc.gov.in, go to Live Advertisement and open Advertisement 24-Exam/2026.
- Log in with your PET-2025 registration number and the OTP sent to your registered mobile/email. Your PET details fill in automatically.
- Select every post you are eligible for. You will not be considered for a post you do not select.
- Enter your diploma details: board/institute, year, roll number and certificate date. Add preferential qualifications (Territorial Army, NCC "B", heavy vehicle licence) if you have them.
- Fill in your order of preference for the selected posts. It is used when posts are allotted.
- Pay the ₹25 fee by card, net banking, UPI or SBI e-challan, then print your submitted application.
After submitting, you can correct only your address, EWS/horizontal reservation details, qualification details and marital status, until 2 December 2026.
