Age relaxation for the Primary (Urban) post:

  • SC, ST and OBC candidates of Uttar Pradesh: 5 years
  • Disabled candidates of Uttar Pradesh: 15 years

  • Shiksha Mitra: maximum age up to 60 years

Only the date of birth recorded in the High School (Class 10) certificate is accepted.

Eligibility Criteria

Assistant Teacher, Primary (Urban)

  • A bachelor’s degree from a university established by law in India, or an equivalent degree recognised by the government; and
  • A government-recognised teacher-training qualification such as BTC, two-year BTC (Urdu), Special BTC, an RCI-approved two-year diploma in special education, a four-year B.El.Ed, or a two-year diploma in elementary education (D.El.Ed) as per NCTE regulations; and
  • A pass in a Teacher Eligibility Test conducted by the State Government or the Government of India.

Note: the BTC course is now run under the name D.El.Ed.

Assistant Teacher, Attached Primary (Aided Schools)

  • A bachelor’s degree from a recognised university or deemed university/institution; and
  • BTC or D.El.Ed from an NCTE-recognised course; and
  • TET for classes 1 to 5, conducted by the UP Government or the Government of India, passed successfully.

All essential qualifications must be held by the last date of application. Reservation benefits apply only to candidates who are domiciled in Uttar Pradesh; reserved-category candidates from other states are treated as General.

Salary

Both posts are in Pay Level 6, with pay from ₹35,400 to ₹1,12,400 per month, plus allowances as per state government rules.

The merit list is prepared from the written exam score. If two candidates score the same, the one with a higher graduation percentage ranks higher; if that is also equal, the training-qualification percentage decides, and then the older candidate is placed higher. If the exam is held in more than one shift, scores will be normalised. The detailed syllabus is available on the commission’s website. Use only a black ballpoint pen on the OMR sheet — whitener, erasers and other pens are not allowed.

Selection Process

  1. Written exam (120 questions, 360 marks)
  2. Document verification for shortlisted candidates (intimated at least 10 days in advance by SMS, email and the website)
  3. Medical fitness certificate from a government hospital or primary health centre before final appointment
  4. School allotment by the Secretary, UP Basic Shiksha Parishad (urban posts) or the Director of Secondary Education (attached primary posts)

How to Apply for UPESSC Primary Teacher 2026

  1. Visit the official website www.upessc.up.gov.in.
  2. Complete the One Time Registration (OTR) — it is compulsory before applying.
  3. Log in and fill in the application form in English. Category, sub-category, date of birth and gender cannot be changed after final submission.
  4. Choose your preference for both types of schools (urban primary and attached primary). This is mandatory and cannot be changed after the last date.
  5. Upload a passport-size photo (30–300 KB) and your signature on a white background (10–200 KB, 140×110 pixels) in JPG/JPEG format. Supporting documents must be PDFs of 50–500 KB.
  6. Pay the fee online and submit the form before 15 October 2026.
  7. Save at least three copies of the submitted form — two are needed at document verification.

If more than one application is submitted, only the last one will be considered. User manuals in Hindi and English and tutorial videos are available on the commission’s website.
