A total of 2,607 PGT posts will be filled in government-aided (non-government) secondary schools under the Madhyamik Shiksha Vibhag, Uttar Pradesh — 2,329 in boys’ schools and 278 in girls’ schools, across 26 subjects.

Online applications open on 18 September 2026 and close on 17 October 2026. The written exam is scheduled for 15–16 December 2026. Horizontal reservation (ex-servicemen, dependents of freedom fighters, persons with disabilities) applies as per rules, and PwD posts are earmarked for the sub-categories listed by the Secondary Education Directorate. Age Limit

  • Minimum age: 21 years as on 1 July 2026.
  • Upper limit: the superannuation (retirement) age for the post is 62 years. Applications from candidates older than 62 on 1 July 2026, or without a date of birth, will not be accepted.
  • Only the date of birth in the High School (Class 10) certificate is accepted.

Salary

PGT (Lecturer) posts are in Pay Level 8: ₹47,600 to ₹1,51,100 per month, plus allowances as per state government rules.

Eligibility — Subject-wise Qualification

For most subjects, you need a post-graduate (Master’s) degree in the subject from a recognised university or deemed university in India and a B.Ed from an NCTE-recognised course. Subjects with different or additional conditions:

All qualifications must be held by the last date of application. Reservation benefits are only for reserved-category candidates domiciled in Uttar Pradesh; others are treated as General.

Important Rules for Boys’ and Girls’ Schools

  • Women can apply for both boys’ and girls’ schools, but must choose only one category (boys or girls) per subject.
  • Male candidates are not eligible for teaching posts in girls’ institutions — except visually impaired candidates for Music.
  • A visually impaired candidate is not ineligible for appointment as a Music teacher.
  • Only one application per subject and category is valid; if more than one is submitted, the last one counts.

Tie-break order: written exam marks, then interview marks, then post-graduation percentage, then training qualification percentage; if all are equal, the older candidate ranks higher. The syllabus is available on the UPESSC website. Use only a black ballpoint pen on the OMR sheet.

Interview and Documents

Candidates shortlisted on written marks will be informed of the interview date at least 10 days in advance by SMS, email and the website, and must download the interview letter from the website. Bring self-attested copies (two sets) and originals of:

  • Online application form (two copies)
  • High School and Intermediate mark sheets and certificates
  • Graduation mark sheets (all years) and degree
  • B.Ed mark sheet and degree (M.P.Ed for Physical Education)
  • Post-graduation mark sheets (both years) and degree
  • No-objection certificate from the employer (serving candidates)
  • Ex-serviceman discharge certificate (if applicable)
  • Caste / EWS / freedom-fighter-dependent certificate on the UP Government format (UP reserved categories only)
  • Disability certificate (if applicable)
  • Affidavit in the prescribed format and character certificates

How to Apply for UPESSC PGT 2026

  1. Go to www.upessc.up.gov.in.
  2. Complete the compulsory One Time Registration (OTR).
  3. Fill in the application form in English, choosing your subject and the school category (boys or girls). Category, sub-category, date of birth and gender cannot be changed after final submission.
  4. Upload a passport-size photo (30–300 KB) and signature on a white background (10–200 KB, 140×110 pixels) as JPG/JPEG. Documents must be PDFs of 50–500 KB.
  5. Pay the fee online and submit before 17 October 2026.
  6. Keep three printed copies of the submitted form — two are needed at the interview.
