The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has released the notice for the Combined Higher Secondary (10+2) Level Examination 2026 (SSC CHSL 2026). Through this exam, SSC recruits Lower Division Clerks (LDC), Junior Secretariat Assistants (JSA) and Data Entry Operators (DEO) for ministries, departments and offices of the Government of India. There are about 2,536 tentative vacancies.
Candidates who have passed Class 12 (or will have the result by 7 October 2026) and are 18 to 27 years old can apply online at ssc.gov.in or through the mySSC mobile app. The last date to apply is 7 October 2026 (11 PM) and the fee can be paid until 8 October 2026. Women, SC, ST, PwBD and Ex-Servicemen candidates do not pay any fee.

Exam city details are uploaded about 10 days before the exam, and the admit card (Admission Certificate) 2–3 days before the exam, on the SSC website.

Pay online through BHIM UPI, net banking or Visa / MasterCard / Maestro / RuPay debit cards. If the fee is not received, the application stays “Incomplete” and is rejected. Corrections cost ₹200 for the first time and ₹500 for the second time (same for all categories).

Allowances are paid as per Central Government rules. Selected candidates are on probation for two years.
Vacancy Details
SSC has announced about 2,536 tentative vacancies. Post-wise and category-wise figures will be published later on the SSC website (Candidate’s Corner → Tentative Vacancy). SSC does not collect state-wise or zone-wise vacancies; for those, candidates need to contact the user departments.
Note: LDC vacancies in the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), if reported, are for male candidates only and require a physical test and medical standards (see below).

Only the date of birth in the Matriculation (Class 10) certificate is accepted. Children and dependents of ex-servicemen do not get age relaxation.

- Each section has a sectional timer of 15 minutes (20 minutes for scribe-eligible candidates).
- Negative marking: 0.50 marks for every wrong answer.
- Questions are in English, Hindi and the regional language chosen in the form (except the English section).

The typing medium (Hindi or English) is chosen in the application form and cannot be changed later.

If scores are tied, SSC looks at Section-I marks of Tier-II, then Tier-I marks, then date of birth (older candidate ranks higher).
Syllabus in Brief
- English: error spotting, fill in the blanks, synonyms/antonyms, spellings, idioms and phrases, one-word substitution, active/passive voice, direct/indirect speech, sentence shuffling, cloze test and comprehension.
- General Intelligence / Reasoning: analogy, classification, series, coding-decoding, Venn diagrams, paper folding, embedded figures, critical thinking and problem solving.
- Quantitative Aptitude / Maths: number system, percentage, ratio, averages, interest, profit and loss, time and work, time and distance, algebra, geometry, mensuration, trigonometry and data interpretation (Tier-II adds basic statistics and probability).
- General Awareness: current affairs, history, culture, geography, economy, polity and general science.
- Computer Knowledge (Tier-II): computer basics, MS Office, internet and email, networking and cyber security basics.
Exam Centres for Uttarakhand Candidates
Uttarakhand falls under SSC’s Northern Region (NR), along with Delhi and Rajasthan. Candidates must choose three centres in order of preference within the same region; centres cannot be changed later.

Candidates from UP and Bihar come under the Central Region (Prayagraj), and those from Himachal, Punjab, Haryana and J&K under the North Western Region (Chandigarh).
LDC in Border Roads Organisation (BRO)
BRO posts are for men only and need a one-mile run in 10 minutes (qualifying), physical standards and a medical test at the GREF Centre, Pune. For the Western Himalayan region, which includes Uttarakhand, the minimum standards are: height 158 cm, chest 75 cm (with 5 cm expansion) and weight 47.5 kg. Opt for BRO only if you meet these standards — a post once allotted is not changed later.
How to Apply for SSC CHSL 2026
- Go to ssc.gov.in or open the mySSC app.
- Complete One-Time Registration (OTR) on the new website. An OTR made on the old ssc.nic.in website does not work. Aadhaar-based authentication is recommended.
- Log in and click Apply under “Combined Higher Secondary (10+2) Level Examination 2026”.
- Fill in your education details, three exam centres, the exam language and the typing-test medium.
- Capture a live photograph through the webcam or phone — no cap, mask or spectacles, plain background. Do not photograph an old photo.
- Upload your signature in JPG/JPEG (10–20 KB).
- Check the preview carefully, submit, and pay ₹100 if applicable by 8 October 2026.
- Download and keep a copy of the application form.
Only one application is allowed; multiple applications lead to rejection. Name, father’s name, mother’s name and date of birth must match the Class 10 certificate exactly.
Documents to Carry on Exam Day
- Printout of the Admission Certificate.
- Candidates without Aadhaar-based authentication must reach the centre 2 hours early with two recent passport-size colour photos and an original photo ID showing date of birth (voter ID, driving licence, PAN, passport, college ID, etc.).
