Documents for Verification
Take the originals and two sets of self-attested photocopies of:
- Class 10 mark sheet (the merit list is based on it)
- Identity proof and date of birth proof
- Caste certificate (SC/ST/OBC), EWS income & asset certificate, PwBD or transgender certificate — as applicable, in the prescribed format
- Medical certificate from a medical officer of a government hospital, dispensary or primary health centre — this is compulsory
- Undertakings for computer knowledge, cycling and having another source of livelihood (formats in the notification)
The Department may verify your Class 10 mark sheet through DigiLocker / API Setu. Keep a DigiLocker account with your mark sheet and certificates fetched in. Any mismatch in marks or details leads to rejection.
If your caste certificate is not in the prescribed format, you may be selected provisionally and must submit it within 15 days of the offer of provisional engagement.
Pay (TRCA) and Working Hours
| Post | Starting TRCA slab (per month) |
|---|---|
| Branch Postmaster (BPM) | ₹12,000 – ₹29,380 |
| ABPM / Dak Sevak | ₹10,000 – ₹24,470 |
- Dearness allowance is paid on TRCA, with a 3% annual increase subject to conditions.
- GDS work 4 to 5 hours a day and can serve up to 65 years of age.
- GDS are not regular central government employees; they are governed by the GDS (Conduct and Engagement) Rules, 2020.
- A Branch Postmaster must provide accommodation for the branch post office at their own cost and live in the post village. ABPMs and Dak Sevaks must live within the delivery area of their office.
How the Merit List Was Made
- Merit is the aggregate percentage of Class 10 marks, calculated to four decimal places.
- Grades are converted to marks by multiplying the grade point by 9.5 (for example A1 = 10 × 9.5 = 95).
- Ties are broken by age (older first), then in this order: ST, SC, OBC, EWS, UR — with trans-women and women placed ahead of men within each category.
- If you are shortlisted for more than one post, you are offered only the first one in your order of preference.
Beware of Fake Calls and Emails
The Department of Posts does not make phone calls to candidates. It sends messages only from email IDs ending in @indiapost.gov.in or @indiapostgdsonline.gov.in. Do not share your registration number, mobile number or OTP with anyone who promises a GDS job.
