The Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) is recruiting 33,320 School Teachers in the fourth phase of the Teacher Recruitment Exam (TRE-4.0) for the Education Department, Bihar. The posts cover classes 1–5, 6–8, 9–10 (including Special School Teachers) and 11–12. Under Advertisement No. 15/2026, online applications run from 25 September to 26 October 2026 on bpsconline.bihar.gov.in. The fee can be paid until 25 October.

What changed since August: BPSC first published TRE-4.0 as Advertisement 14/2026 on 18 August 2026, for 32,388 posts. It postponed the application process on 31 August. On 22 September it cancelled Advertisement 14/2026 and issued Advertisement 15/2026. A corrigendum dated 29 September then added 932 more posts: 493 for classes 9–10 and 439 for classes 11–12. That brought the total to 33,320. Applications made under 14/2026 do not carry over, so apply under 15/2026.

Vacancies are filled district-wise and subject-wise. The district-wise roster is on bpsc.bihar.gov.in. You can choose up to 38 districts in the form. Your result is declared only for the districts you choose.

Reservation: Read This If You Are Not From Bihar

  • All reservation is only for Bihar domicile candidates. This covers SC, ST, EBC, BC, EWS, women, PwBD and freedom fighters' grandchildren. Candidates from other states, including Uttarakhand, compete as Unreserved (UR) whatever their caste.
  • Women's reservation is 50% for classes 1–8 and 35% for classes 9–12. It is horizontal and only for women who are native residents of Bihar.
  • 40% of all posts go to candidates who passed Class 10 or Class 12 from a board or institution in Bihar (Education Department notification dated 05.08.2025). Only the remaining 60% are open to everyone. If the 40% cannot be filled, the unfilled posts move to the open 60%.
  • For out-of-state candidates, the CTET pass mark is the General-category minimum (60%) whatever their category.

  • CTET pass marks (as for BTET 2017): General 60%; BC, EBC and General-category women 55%; SC, ST and PwBD 50%.
  • Candidates appearing in STET 2026 can apply, but they must pass STET before the prelims admit card is issued. Otherwise no admit card is issued. They must submit a self-declaration with the application. The format is on the BPSC website.

Educational and training qualification (as per NCTE)

The subject must have been studied at graduation level, for example two of Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Biology for Maths & Science.
Classes 9–10Graduation or PG in the subject with 50% + B.Ed; or 45% + B.Ed as per NCTE 2002/2007 rules; or 4-year BA.Ed / B.Sc.Ed. Physical Education, Music, Fine Arts and Dance have their own degree rules. Special School Teachers need a B.Ed in Special Education, a valid RCI CRR number and 6 months of cross-disability training.
Classes 11–12PG in the subject with 50% + B.Ed; or 45% + B.Ed as per NCTE rules; or 4-year BA.Ed / B.Sc.Ed; or PG with 55% + 3-year integrated B.Ed–M.Ed. B.Ed is not required for Computer Science. Agriculture needs a PG in an agriculture discipline.

SC, ST, EBC, BC and PwBD candidates get 5% relaxation in the minimum qualifying percentage. All certificates (educational, training, TET and experience) must be issued on or before the last date of application.

The maximum age is counted as on 1 August 2024 while the minimum age is counted as on 1 August 2026, so older candidates get some extra time. A candidate can take this exam a maximum of 5 times under the 2024 amended rules.

Application Fee

  • ₹100 per class group, for all categories. If you apply for more than one group (1–5, 6–8, 9–10, 11–12), you pay ₹100 for each group.
  • ₹200 biometric fee extra if you do not give your Aadhaar number as ID in the form. Also link your mobile number to Aadhaar: an OTP problem at document verification can affect your eligibility.
  • Payment is through the SBI payment gateway. Bank charges are extra.

  • In Part I (English plus Hindi, Urdu or Bangla) you need at least 30%, but these marks are not added to merit. Merit is based on Part II for classes 1–5, and on Part II + Part III for the other levels.
  • The paper-wise table gives the Mains duration as 2 hours 30 minutes. Each question has 5 options. Pick (E) if you do not want to answer. One-third of a mark is deducted for each wrong answer, and also for leaving a question with no option marked.
  • Guest teachers who meet the higher secondary eligibility get 5 marks per year of service, up to 25 marks. This is subject to the outcome of LPA No. 593/2024 in the Patna High Court.
  • Tie-breaks go to Part I marks, then the older candidate, then alphabetical order of the name in Devanagari. There is no interview, re-evaluation or supplementary result.

How to Apply

  1. Do the One Time Registration (OTR) at bpsconline.bihar.gov.in → New User Registration. You need your own mobile number and email. Older OTRs from the previous portal must be redone. Only one OTR is allowed. Your name, parents' names, gender, Aadhaar number and date of birth cannot be changed later.
  2. Link DigiLocker (Meri Pehchan) to upload documents.
  3. Complete the six profile steps: personal details, address, other information, qualifications (Class 10 onwards), experience, and a live webcam photo with your Hindi and English signatures (under 20 KB, 150–220 × 250–320 px). Then click Lock Profile.
  4. Under New Application → TRE-4.0 → Pay Fees, choose your class group and subject, then pay.
  5. Click Apply and fill the form, including the STET result card number / BSEB Unique ID or the CTET certificate serial number. Choose your districts and submit.
  6. From My Account, print two copies of the form and check that the Application Number, Application ID and bar code are on every page.

Once you pay, you cannot change the subject or post. To change it, cancel the payment and apply again, and the cancelled fee is not refunded. You do not need to send a hard copy to BPSC.

Documents You Will Need Later

  • Class 10 certificate (proof of date of birth)
  • Degree, training (D.El.Ed/B.Ed) and TET certificates and marksheets
  • Bihar residential, caste and non-creamy-layer certificates. For married women these must be in the father's name and address.
  • EWS certificate in the Bihar format (Notification 2622 of 26.02.2019)
  • RCI CRR number (Special School Teachers), disability certificate, and guest-teacher experience certificate from the DEO, if applicable
  • NOC if you are a government employee; photo ID; 4 recent passport-size photos; printouts of the application and e-admit cards
