UKPSC Assistant Geologist, Mining Officer & Assistant Chemist 2026 — Send Documents by 21 October, Syllabus

The Uttarakhand Public Service Commission (UKPSC) is recruiting for 5 Group 'B' gazetted posts in the Directorate of Geology and Mining, Uttarakhand (Advertisement No. A-1/DR/GMC/S-3/2026, dated 28 February 2026). The posts are 1 Assistant Geologist, 3 Mining Officers and 1 Assistant Chemist, all at Pay Level-10 (₹56,100–1,77,500). The online application closed on 20 March 2026. In a later notice dated 3 August 2026, the commission asked applicants to send self-attested copies of their certificates to its Haridwar office by 17 August 2026. The written exam date is awaited.

Latest update (7 October 2026): UKPSC has given one more chance to applicants who could not send their documents by 17 August because postal services in the Haridwar area were disrupted during the Kanwar Yatra. The link to download your online application form is open on psc.uk.gov.in from 7 to 21 October 2026. Send self-attested copies of your documents, with the form and the checklist, to the Secretary, UKPSC, Haridwar by 21 October 2026 (Wednesday), 6:00 PM. Candidates who already sent documents under the 3 August notice do not need to send them again.

Selection is by a descriptive (written-answer) exam of 200 marks followed by a 25-mark interview. Each post has its own technical syllabus. This page explains the eligibility, the exam pattern and the full syllabus for all three posts, so registered candidates can plan their preparation.

No posts are reserved horizontally, for example for women, ex-servicemen or PwD. Candidates from categories with no reserved post can apply against the unreserved posts. Candidates with disabilities can compete where the post is identified for their sub-category:

• Assistant Geologist: OA and HH/PD.
• Mining Officer: OA, OL, LV/PB, HH/PD, LC, Dw and AAV/AV.
• Assistant Chemist: AAV/AV.

The number of vacancies may change.

Eligibility (Post-wise)

• Experience must be certified in the prescribed format, which is Appendix-07 of the advertisement. Certificates in any other format are rejected.
• Experience from government, public or private limited organisations is accepted, but it counts only from the date you obtained the required qualification.
• The qualification date is taken from the marksheet issue date. If your university awards CGPA, you need a conversion certificate from the university in the Appendix-08 format.

Age Limit and Relaxation

You must be 21 to 42 years old on 1 July 2026, which means born between 2 July 1984 and 1 July 2005. The date of birth in the High School certificate is the only one accepted.

Reservation applies only to candidates domiciled in Uttarakhand. Candidates from other states apply in the unreserved category.

Application Fee (already closed)

You can apply for more than one post if you hold the relevant qualifications, but a separate fee is charged for each post. If you are called for more than one post, you submit a preference sheet before the interview and can be selected for only one post.

Exam Pattern

The written exam is descriptive, not multiple choice. It is a single paper of 3 hours and 200 marks with 5 compulsory questions of 40 marks each. Each question has two parts of 20 marks, and each part has a 200-word limit. Candidates who pass the written exam are called for a 25-mark interview. The final merit list is based on written and interview marks together.

Minimum Qualifying Marks

Answer-writing rules (marks are deducted for these)

• Write the whole paper in either English or Hindi. Mixing languages costs 5% of the marks for each question where you do it, although technical terms may be written in English.
• Answers written in pencil are not evaluated. Using ink other than blue or black costs 2 marks per question.
• Writing your name or roll number anywhere other than the space provided costs 2 to 5 marks. If a letter-type answer needs a name or address, write "XYZ" or "ABC" instead.
• If you answer more questions than required, only the first ones up to the required number are marked.
• Calculators are not allowed. Mark your thumb impression in the answer booklet (left thumb for men, right thumb for women).

• Organic: stereochemistry, reaction mechanisms and named reactions, aromaticity, pericyclic reactions, photochemistry, heterocycles, dyes.
• Analytical: errors and sampling, solvent extraction and ion exchange, IR, NMR, mass and Raman spectroscopy, AAS, flame photometry, thermal methods, chromatography, analysis of minerals.
• Physical: quantum chemistry, electrochemistry, thermodynamics, kinetics, phase rule, surface chemistry.
• Interdisciplinary: bioinorganic, green and environmental chemistry (water and soil analysis), natural polymers, medicinal chemistry, solid state, polymers.

Documents for Verification and Interview

Bring two self-attested sets of the following:

• A printout of your online application
• Class 10 and Class 12 certificates and marksheets
• Graduation and postgraduation degrees and final marksheets
• Experience certificates in the Appendix-07 format
• Preferential qualification certificates
• Reservation and domicile certificates
• A No Objection Certificate from your employer, if you are in government service
• Two recent photographs and a photo ID

A marksheet is not accepted in place of a degree. If your degree has not yet been issued, submit the provisional certificate.

How to Send Your Documents (by 21 October)

1. Download your online application form from the link on psc.uk.gov.in (open 7–21 October 2026).
2. Download the official checklist and arrange self-attested photocopies of every certificate you claimed in the form: educational qualifications, Uttarakhand permanent residence, and vertical/horizontal reservation certificates.
3. If your name differs in any document, fill the self-declaration on difference in name issued with the notice.
4. On the envelope, write the exam name ("Directorate of Geology and Mining, Uttarakhand – Assistant Geologist, Mining Officer and Assistant Chemist (Group B) Exam 2026"), the post applied for and your application number.
5. Send it by post or any other means to the Secretary, Uttarakhand Public Service Commission, Haridwar, so that it reaches by 21 October 2026, 6:00 PM. Applied for more than one post? Send a separate set for each post.

UKPSC will not send individual letters about this. Incomplete or unclear documents, or claims that do not match, can stop you from sitting the main exam. Original documents are checked at the interview.
